Picture Framing Standards

Intaframe & F.A.T.G. standards explained

What can I expect from my F.A.T.G. framer?

The goal of this site is to enlighten and empower customers to make informed choices and to promote the highest standards in picture framing. Anyone who is considering having a picture framed should be aware of the standards and quality to look for in picture framing.

F.A.T.G. Membership?

When comparing picture framers, or anything else for that matter, it is vital to compare "apples" with "apples". When using a qualified Fine Art Trade Guild member ( Guild Commended Framer ) you can be assured of a very high standard of workmanship.

Check that anyone calling themselves a "GCF" is still actually a current member of The Fine Art Trade Guild. Quality ratings and standards change frequently and a current member will be fully up to date with information and current trends.

There is always someone who will do a cheaper job, but at who's cost?

Guild - Five Levels of framing

There are 5 levels of detailed specifications defined by The Fine Art Trade Guild that clearly set out what you can expect from your picture framer.

1. Minimum

2. Budget

3. Commended

4. Conservation

5. Museum

It must be noted that even the lowest F.A.T.G. levels 1 & 2 exceed the quality standards of most mass-produced "supermarket" frames.

INTAFRAME's Framing Levels

At INTAFRAME we operate 3 Levels for simplicity and clarity,

Standard

Conservation

Museum

F.A.T.G. Level 3 ( Commended ) is our Standard

Level 4 ( Conservation ) & Level 5 ( Museum ) are the same as F.A.T.G.

We have found that our customers bring pictures to us because they have a value to them, in sentimental or monetary terms, or both. Therefore, it seemed logical to adopt a system that, at the "Standard" level, a customer may expect a minimum standard of quality and expertise that will enhance the quality, value and security of their picture, now and for the future. If you require a more enhanced level of preservation then you have a choice.

For temporary displays, lesser quality materials can be used, but then this is reflected in the price. The quality of the workmanship involved remains the same.
